Product UX-UI Designer

We have an open, honest and trusting culture here at Origami. Don’t just take our word for it, see what our people have to say!

What you'll do

We want to help change the world. Origami is embracing a real technical challenge to build a digital platform at the forefront of a massively exciting green transformation in the global energy sector.

We’re developing a software platform that delivers a suite of interoperable and configurable cloud-based software product modules to help our customers meet the challenges of increasing complexity and volatility head on. Energy companies need to optimise physical and financial decisions in real-time - improving their trading performance, unlocking exciting new customer propositions, and investing in low carbon assets to accelerate the energy transition.  Origami is on a mission to help our customers make better, faster decisions within an energy system increasingly dominated by renewables. With renewables supplying a much higher proportion of total energy, we are seeing an explosion in physical and market volatility, and the industry is struggling to keep up.

The role of Product UX/UI Designer is important to Origami because it sharpens the specification and quality of our user journey, specifically in relation to the usability of our product modules. This role works closely with the Director of Product, Product Owners and Product Delivery squads to build functionally appealing and easy-to-use products for our customers, based upon a highly modular micro front-end architecture.

To be successful in this role, you should have experience with taking responsibility for product UX and UI design across SaaS platforms and/or web applications.  Following a path of continuous improvement, you will iterate workflow designs and reusable components for product delivery teams to adopt; then review the performance of the live product, identify learnings and find ways to enhance it.

You belong in this team if you can

  • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product owners, subject matter experts, end-users and software engineers
  • Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, wire-framing, process flows and sitemaps
  • Design graphic user interface elements like navigation, graphical and tabular data representations, UI controls, configuration widgets
  • Develop UI mock-ups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how product modules function and look
  • Create original graphic designs (e.g. images, sketches and tables)
  • Prepare and present rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)
  • Conduct layout adjustments based on user feedback Define and drive adoption of style standards on fonts, colours and images

Ideally you will bring

  • 5+ years of experience in UX and UI design for software products, within complex SaaS or web applications
  • Strong UX focus with a demonstrable understanding of user flow and user interaction design skills
  • Demonstrable UI design experience, ideally with a portfolio of previous design work
  • Ability to think at a high level about product strategy and clearly articulate design decisions
  • Experience of strong collaboration with Product Owners and delivery squads in an agile environment, understanding technical implications in design decisions and able to take ownership of design process and work as self-directed member of the team.
  • Works iteratively to incrementally gain feedback, and build understanding and alignment Clean visual design sense.

Other great things you may have

  • A collaborative, supportive, curious and an open communicator
  • A level head, is a confident problem solver and can distil clarity from complexity
  • A sense of urgency; thinks 80-20 and drives lean principles, understands build-measure-learn, iterates to drive emergent solutions in a complex and rapidly changing landscape Would love to make a difference
