What you'll do

We want to help change the world. Origami is embracing a real technical challenge to build a technology platform at the forefront of a massively exciting green transformation in the global energy sector.

We’re developing a software platform that delivers a suite of interoperable and configurable cloud-based software product modules to help our customers meet the challenges of increasing complexity and volatility head on. Energy companies need to optimise physical and financial decisions in real-time - improving their trading performance, unlocking exciting new customer propositions, and investing in low carbon assets to accelerate the energy transition.

Origami is on a mission to help our customers make better, faster decisions within an energy system increasingly dominated by renewables. With renewables supplying a much higher proportion of total energy, we are seeing an explosion in physical and market volatility, and the industry is struggling to keep up.

The position is ideally suited to an experienced and hands-on Head-of, or senior software engineering manager looking for the next step up, being a fantastic opportunity to get in early and take on software engineering leadership working within an experienced and supportive senior tech leadership team. We’re looking for someone with the experience, resilience and technical leadership skills to hit the ground running and lead the evolution of our distributed technology platform.

The candidate will lead and guide the autonomous software engineering squads building our modular platform of cloud based containerised microservices, embracing rapid agile DevOps practices and continuous delivery to create the high paced, flexible change-engine required to win in this rapidly transforming market.

  • Work closely with the technology leadership team; including s/w engineering, security, AI/ML and platform services to define & deliver the technology strategy & roadmap.
  • Work closely with our Head of Machine Learning to support development of the roadmap for our Machine Learning and AI strategy for a globally scalable intelligent platform. Lead and scale-up our teams of software engineers and engineering managers; lead hiring, career management and personal development of our software engineering teams.

Ideally you will bring

  • Product delivery leadership experience of full-stack teams building complex digital platforms.
  • Experience developing people via goal setting, career plans and cultivating an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience building maintainable, scalable, secure, observable distributed systems software in a cloud platform environment.
  • Strong working experience of containers and orchestration, ideally with Kubernetes.
